Dismissed by the health "care" system?

You go to an appointment hoping for clarity – and leave with more questions than answers. You’re told your labs are “normal,” that what you’re feeling is likely stress, or that things should resolve on their own. And yet, in your body, something feels “off” and you know it.

This gap between what you’re experiencing and what is being acknowledged can feel incredibly isolating – and can also make you second-guess your own intuition.

At Ezra Healing, we believe this is where a more complete conversation needs to begin.

Our conventional, modern health "care" system is quick to dispense medication rather than working together to find out the root of the problem.

Your symptoms are information, not inconvenience

The body does not create symptoms without reason. Fatigue, brain fog, skin changes, shifts in mood, or new sensitivities, are all forms of communication. Although they may not always point to a single, clear diagnosis, they do point to imbalance.

In many conventional settings, care is often designed to identify acute disease or manage well-defined conditions. When symptoms fall outside of those frameworks, they are often minimized because the system is not structured to explore complexity in depth.

This is why at Ezra Healing we often hear that clients are seeking alternative options: they want to be heard, validated and understood, and we all deserve that kind of care, don’t we?

Why “normal” lab results don’t always tell the full story

Although in Canada we may not pay for bloodwork, we know that standard lab ranges are designed to capture broad population averages, not optimal function for the individual. It is entirely possible to fall within a reference range and still feel unwell.

Did you know that bloodwork done through a private healthcare provider – such a Naturopath – can often reveal much more detail results than through your government paid-for system? Be your own health advocate – your body, your research = your choices.

A “Free” healthcare may seem convenient, as it's cheap, fast and easy, which is most likely how you became unhealthy in the first place.

Subtle nutrient depletions, low-grade inflammation, nervous system dysregulation, or cumulative environmental exposures often do not present clearly on basic testing. These imbalances can exist beneath the surface, gradually influencing how you feel day to day.

What’s more – how often does your family doctor ask about your nutrition, sunshine exposure, or stress levels? These are factors that have a big effect on your health, yet they are not acknowledged.

Beyond nutrition, doctors often neglect to ask comprehensive questions about a patient’s daily environment, mental state, and social circumstances – all of which are major determinants of health. These overlooked areas (known as social determinants of health, or SDOH) have a greater impact on long-term wellness than medical care alone.

The questions that are often missed

In many conventional doctor’s appointments, the focus is placed on immediate symptoms and measurable markers. But some of the most influential aspects of health are rarely explored in depth.

The 10-minute quick-visits to your family doctor aren’t helping you on your path to healing – and are certainly not getting down to the root of the problem, only the symptom. This band-aid approach isn’t enough to help you heal.

In addition to taking blood pressure and checking your eyes and ears, your healthcare provider should be asking:

  • How are you actually feeling, emotionally?

Ongoing stress, anxiety, or emotional strain can shift hormone balance, immune response, and overall resilience.

  • Do you feel supported in your life, in your health journey?

Loneliness and social isolation are now understood to have measurable effects on physical health, including inflammation and recovery capacity.

  • What does your daily energy feel like from morning to evening?

Energy patterns can reveal far more than a single lab test – they reflect how well the body is adapting and producing what it needs.

  • Are you sleeping deeply, or simply getting hours in bed?

Sleep quality influences everything from cognitive clarity to immune regulation and tissue repair.

  • How often do you feel calm versus overwhelmed?

A constantly activated nervous system can keep the body in a state where healing is more difficult.

  • What does your environment look like day to day?

Exposure to noise, chemicals, screen time, and even lighting, influence how the body responds and recovers.

  • Who else is on your healthcare team?

An integrative approach to complex illnesses – such as cancers – means a more supportive environment, where you’re being offered different approaches, perspectives, and solutions. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case in mainstream healthcare, and often, it’s even frowned upon.

The importance of being heard

At Ezra Healing, we pride ourselves by knowing that healing is not just about protocols or test results – it begins with listening: to every client’s concerns, and by understanding your full picture – your timeline, your environment, your stress load, your history – can often identify patterns that would otherwise be missed.

When people feel heard, health and positivity immediately shifts. There is less urgency to chase answers, and more space to understand what the body may be asking for.

Advocate for yourself

If you’ve felt dismissed, it can be difficult to know how to move forward. A few grounded steps can help you regain clarity and direction:

  • Track your symptoms over time

Patterns matter – when did things begin to shift? What makes symptoms better or worse?

  • Ask questions, even if they feel simple

You are allowed to understand your own health.

  • Seek practitioners who look beyond single systems

The body does not operate in isolation – your care shouldn’t either. If you’re feeling lost or unheard, voice that openly and allow our team to guide you.

  • Give yourself permission to explore different approaches

Healing is not always linear, and it is rarely one-size-fits-all.

Feeling dismissed does not mean there are no answers; it often means you have not yet been met with the right lens.

We approach health as an interconnected system, where body, mind and spirit work in unison. We recognize that modern life places a significant load on the body – from environmental exposures to chronic stress to shifting immune demands. When symptoms arise, they are not viewed as inconveniences to silence, but as signals to understand. You deserve to feel supported in that process!

If you’ve been searching for answers and feel like you’ve been navigating it alone, know that your experience is more common than you think – and more importantly, it is worth exploring.

Healing begins when the conversation changes – when your symptoms are acknowledged, your story is heard, and your body is approached with curiosity rather than dismissal. When you are ready to have that conversation, our Ezra Healing team is here for you – please book a consultation and let’s talk.
